“My evenings are taken up very largely with astrology. I make horoscopic calculations in order to find a clue to the core of psychological truth. Some remarkable things have turned up which will certainly appear incredible to you.”
~Carl Jung in a letter to Sigmund Freud (June 12, 1911)
I offer astrological counseling for psycho-spiritual exploration, understanding, and transformation. Astrology utilized in this way can be a missing key for deep inner work and can shed light on the path towards greater harmony with the natural rhythms and cycles of one’s life journey. My approach to astrology is to share the potentials and opportunities I see while exploring how the symbols and archetypes are manifesting uniquely for each individual. Astrology is a wonderful tool for self-knowledge and a help in times of challenge or transition. It can facilitate tremendous insight and peace, as well as provide timelines for certain archetypal or energetic influences reflected in our lives and inner states of being. Consultations available for birth chart exploration, current influences, relationship dynamics, and timing for important events.
Saturn dips into Aquarius: March 22 — July 1, 2020, initiating Saturn square Uranus
Saturn leaves Capricorn for a few months, creating a little more distance between Saturn and Pluto. While these two planets take a break from sharing the same sign, many are experiencing a decreased level of alarm related to the pandemic and the dark Saturn-Pluto themes of fear and confinement. At the same time we are getting a taste of what the next couple of years may be like. For most of 2021 and 2022 we will be embroiled in another powerful planetary alignment: Saturn in Aquarius square Uranus in Taurus. This transit could be described as the status quo power structures (Saturn) poised in a tug of war (square) with the voices for radical change (Uranus) to confront and uproot racial injustice, economic injustice, environmental injustice, and all other forms of systemic institutionalized oppression and bondage. We are seeing a strong uprising against the horrific brutalities that commonly occur against people of color (George Floyd being a last straw). And this is just the beginning, virus or not. I am finding myself grieving deeply about the pain my beloved brothers and sisters of color have endured for centuries. Mercifully this is now once again becoming too flagrant for white people to ignore. Along with the grief, my heart is also rejoicing as I watch the ubiquitous inequities come to light more visibly for white people to see. Seeds of real change are being planted now correlating with this transit. It is a square, so no surprise, change and reform will not happen without great struggle...
Current Eclipses: June 5, June 21, and July 5, 2020
We can thank these eclipses for helping to usher in, highlight, and spotlight things that are normally hidden (to white people that is, in this case). Eclipses are ultra potent lunations. New Moons and especially Full Moons are always impactful and emotional, but eclipses amplify the power and volatility of our emotions.
Venus Retrograde: May 13 — June 25, 2020
Venus, the planet of love, also rules justice (people with a Libra emphasis in their chart can testify to this), because advocating for justice is love in action. Venus is currently retrograde — offering us this opportune time to reflect on the pandemic of systemic injustice that is sickening and killing so many. We have a lot of work to do to attempt to make amends and to heal. Unless we are continually remembering and recognizing our lack of awareness, lack of sensitivity, and lack of education about our country’s present and not so distant history, then we are part of the problem. The first step is to acknowledge the truth. Then we must have authentic empathy and be willing to listen and hear with an open heart. Empathy, listening, vulnerable sharing, love… This is Venus territory. Retrograde times encourage us and sometimes force us to make corrections and figure out how to make things right.
Mars in Pisces: May 14 — June 28, 2020
How does Mars, the warrior, navigate and fight while in the sensitive, emotional, and oceanic oneness of Pisces waters? We are seeing it unfold before our eyes in gut wrenching and beautiful ways. We are all being called to stand up to and overcome anything within ourselves or within society that fails to reflect the unity of humanity as a whole. We can only forget or pretend to be in our own little world separate from one another, but in Pisces it is impossible to ignore the pain of the collective. Pisces reminds us we are all connected, we are all one. And Mars is impelling us to fight for liberty and justice for all. We have to transform those meaningful words from the tragic hypocrisy they have come to represent, into a present lived reality.
Venus turned retrograde in Aries yesterday. With Venus in the sign that is most opposite to her own intrinsic essence, this may stir up some discomfort. But it is an important and necessary phase of processing Venus-related things (partnerships, financial matters & comforts, beauty & aesthetics, etc) — that should prove to be clarifying and freeing.
Venus, known for her relationship-oriented, other-focused, ready-to-understand, ready-to-accommodate way of being is in the sign that is all about “me,” “my” own needs, what “I” want, and being true to “self.” The context of these opposites is an opportunity to find more inner wholeness.
Further, the nature of a retrograde cycle activates things from the past — under the surface resentments or unresolved issues — for the purpose of rousing out those undetected but simmering impediments to a clear and clean interrelationship, and making changes that need to be made. Depending on where you have Aries in your chart will reveal the area of life most affected by this retrograde process. With Mars also in Aries (Jan 28-Mar 9) there is a an extra quality of feistiness, self-interest, or conflict in that same area of your life.
Venus will back up into Pisces on Apr 2, which will have a different flavor for that part of the retrograde cycle. Venus in Pisces has more of a sense of unity and unconditional love, which would be a nice result of the resolution of old resentments. Then when Venus makes her final pass through Aries (Apr 28-Jun 6) moving in direct motion, things will be in a different place. Not stuck, but ready to go forth, which Aries likes to do!
You can find abundant information about current astro weather everywhere on the internet. So, instead, for today, I’m going to write about what’s on my mind a lot lately with regard to the planets… Though first I will say briefly that there is a lot going on right now astrologically (but there always is. It never stops). We’re in-between eclipses — a North Node Solar Eclipse in Virgo on Sep 13 and a South Node Lunar Eclipse in Aries on Sep 27. Eclipses mark big though sometimes subtle shifts, which unfold over the course of several months before and after the actual eclipse dates. Also, Mercury is about to turn retrograde on Sep 17 (we’ve been in the shadow period since Aug 28) and Saturn moves into Sagittarius (also on Sep 17) to stay until Dec 2017…
But what I want to mention today is the last Venus/Sun conjunction, which occurred on Aug 15th. Astrologer, Gary Caton, taught me to pay attention to these special conjunctions, because they set into motion a deep transformative process that is in effect for about 9.5 months until the next Venus/Sun conjunction. Through observation I have found this to be profoundly true, yet it’s sometimes only in retrospect that I can really see and appreciate it, which is why I’m bringing it up now. We’ve had a month to start feeling this new Venus unfoldment process. The conjunction was at about 23º Leo. What house of your birth chart does Leo fall in for you? That house will describe the sphere of life that is beginning to undergo a transformation of values (values, a Venus thing), especially if 23º Leo is near an angle or planet in your chart. Where Leo is in your chart is an area of your life that will be in focus until the next conjunction in Jun of 2016 in mid Gemini. The domain of life affected by the Venus/Sun conjunction often manifests in a clear or concrete way over the 9 month period so it is worth contemplating. The Venus/Sun conjunction correlates with a discovery process of what you truly value/desire/enjoy and that discovery creates change. if you want to think about the 9 months prior to Aug 2015, the Venus/Sun conjunction before this last one was on Oct 25, 2014 at 2º Scorpio. If you aren’t familiar with your chart or if you want to explore this further, contact me and we can set up a consultation.
It is rare to have a New Moon exactly on New Year’s day, both powerfully and clearly signifying a fresh new beginning. This New Moon in Capricorn was extra potent and also potentially volatile because not only was it tightly involved with the Uranus/Pluto square, representing a long-term process of deep change and transformation from 2012 to 2015, but it was also square to Mars and opposed Jupiter. Anyone with significant planets or points in the cardinal signs of Capricorn, Aries, Libra, or Cancer (especially around 11 degrees) will be experiencing Dec 30, 2013-Jan 2, 2014 (and perhaps this whole year) more intensely. Dynamic forces are in the air and may stir up anger, brutal honesty, and big energy and motivation to move stagnancy and create change. Read more...
“Pay little attention to what people say or do. Instead, try to see their innermost motive for speaking and acting” (Vernon Howard). When people are triggered they say and do things stemming from the “pain body”. Unconscious fear and hurt can be covered over with defense mechanisms such as denial or anger. Sensing the real feelings and needs underneath is where empathy and understanding come in, which are both crucial for sustaining love and care amidst the inevitable disagreements, growing pains, and change that occur in all significant relationships.
The New Moon is a time for visioning and planting seeds for the future, but we may still feel in the dark about how to proceed. The Full Moon is when more clarity and objectivity will come. Also Venus is retrograde through the end of January. This suggests that this month is especially useful for reflecting on Venusian matters (especially partnerships and love, but also finances, art, and beauty), as opposed to making permanent decisions, because situations and perspectives could shift after Venus goes direct.
For this New Moon in Capricorn, Some of Capricorn’s key themes such as ambition, striving, and success may be activated. I love Ari Moshe’s definition of success: “To me the true definition of success is the experience of performing an action that is in vibrational alignment with who we truly are/who we wish to become. When we perform such actions over a long period of time, we build a successful lifestyle in the sense that all aspects of our life are in expressed harmony with the essence of who we are.”
Venus went retrograde on May 15th. Venus is connected with relationships, love, art, money, beauty, harmony, etc and the capacity to attract to oneself all that is desired and valued. It can be challenging to see the positive side of any retrograde period, but truly there are gifts inherent in the retrograde process. Venus retrograde is about reevaluating what is actually desired and valued in the present and integrating that new awareness. Its a natural part of the cycle, though it can be uncomfortable and a struggle to let go of old cherished concepts. We are now in the part of the retrograde cycle associated with “endings.” Patience and allowing the unknown to be unknown may be required until Jun 5th when Venus lines up with the Sun, which will reinvigorate her and start a phase of “new beginnings” in Venus related areas of life. The Venus/Sun conjunction on Jun 5th is the time to inwardly set intentions for a new cycle and to create new Venusian energy patterns (in relationships, love, finances, etc). Then when Venus goes direct on June 27th, those intentions can take hold.
Venus will be retrograde from May 15th—Jun 27th, 2012. She entered her pre-retrograde shadow period on April 11th. This means that relationship, partnership, and love issues, as well as financial matters, that have arisen since April 11th, may be revisited, reevaluated, or modified throughout May and June. Venus retrograde gives us an opportunity to investigate inwardly what we truly value regarding these matters. Yet a balanced view of the whole picture may not be clear until after Venus goes direct again.
Venus has slowed and is about to turn direct tomorrow (Nov 18) after 6 weeks of being retrograde. Venus retrograde is a time for reevaluating and revisiting issues from the past — in terms of love, finances, and creativity. It is a perfect moment to be still within your process, to be compassionate with yourself and others, and to enjoy this last bit of time for reflection...
