Astrological Counseling

“My evenings are taken up very largely with astrology. I make horoscopic calculations in order to find a clue to the core of psychological truth. Some remarkable things have turned up which will certainly appear incredible to you.”

~Carl Jung in a letter to Sigmund Freud (June 12, 1911)

Astrological Counseling

I offer astrological counseling for psycho-spiritual exploration, understanding, and transformation. Astrology utilized in this way can be a missing key for deep inner work and can shed light on the path towards greater harmony with the natural rhythms and cycles of one’s life journey. My approach to astrology is to share the potentials and opportunities I see while exploring how the symbols and archetypes are manifesting uniquely for each individual. Astrology is a wonderful tool for self-knowledge and a help in times of challenge or transition. It can facilitate tremendous insight and peace, as well as provide timelines for certain archetypal or energetic influences reflected in our lives and inner states of being. Consultations available for birth chart exploration, current influences, relationship dynamics, and timing for important events.

We all have all 12 archetypes (signs) of the zodiac in us.

We all have all 12 archetypes (signs) of the zodiac in us. We are complex multidimensional beings. The Sun (identity, purpose), Moon (emotional nature & predisposition), and rising sign (persona, personality) are 3 of the prominent components of the psyche, but there is also the private self, the public self, & the self one becomes in intimate relationships, for instance. All this is illustrated in the birth chart.

I probably won’t schedule you during a Void-of-Course Moon

For those of you who have tried to schedule with me during a “Void-of-Course Moon” and came up against my request to re-schedule, check out this article for an explanation about the do’s and don’ts of VOC Moons!

Also, if you would like to follow the Void Moons, here is a calendar.

Note that right now we are in an extra long VOC Moon time: Thu 3/31 at 9:43a until Sat 4/2 at 7:16a).

Astrology cannot predict character per se

Interpreting astrological symbolism cannot predict character per se. It only suggests influences with many possible manifestations. Each placement and aspect in a birth chart can be read on the high side and the low side. It is my practice to always focus on the inherent higher potentials, but occasionally I am reminded to stay alert to the more negative possibilities.

That goes for interpreting current planetary transits (influences) happening for an individual as well. There are often both high and low manifestations at the same time, which sometimes may only be fully understood after the transit has passed.

Ophiuchus

There are many constellations not used in astrology. “Ophiuchus was one of the 48 constellations listed by Ptolemy, and it remains one of the 88 modern constellations” (wikipedia). The 12 archetypes used in Western & Vedic astrology are comprehensive and have worked for millennia. Though it is worth contemplating why Ophiuchus has surfaced now in the collective consciousness. Our understanding of the universe is constantly expanding...

Galileo and Newton were also astrologers

Did you know that at one time astrology was mainly associated with mathematics and astronomy, and many historic astronomers, such as Galileo and Newton, were also astrologers?

Now offering digital audio recordings of all sessions

After having clients tell me it was absolutely necessary that I begin recording sessions, I now have a digital voice recorder and can email you an audio file of the session!

This is an example of using Mercury retrograde to follow up on things one has been meaning to get around to doing.

The ultimate purpose of a significant transit

The ultimate purpose of a significant transit (current planetary influence) affecting one’s natal chart is to create inner change and expansion. Frequently this comes as a result of needing to make adjustments to big outer events in our lives. But other times we shift inside, without a big external event, as a result of subtle (yet often Herculean) inner work - and maybe a touch of grace.

Credit to Benjamin Bernstein and Diane Applebaum for both reminding me of this general idea, independently, on the same day. Love synchronicities!

Mazal Tov

In honor of Hanukkah, here is an interesting bit of history — the Jewish phrase Mazal Tov, which is now used to express congratulations, has its roots in astrology. It literally means: “May you enjoy a favorable star.”

The Sabian Symbols

The Sabian Symbols are 360 symbolic vignettes each corresponding to a degree of the zodiac. All of the planets travel through the zodiac, but it can be convenient to look at the Sun, for in its 365 day cycle it spends approx 1 day per Sabian over the course of the year. Perceiving the corresponding Sabian that the Sun is in each day is a powerful way of tuning into the energy of the day.

Also, the degree the Sun was in on the day of birth and the corresponding Sabian is often a key symbol for understanding the core essence of that person. The symbols for the degrees of the other planets and points in a chart can also be useful.

Look up each Sabian symbol

*Please note: You always round up to the next degree when working with the symbols. Here is an explanation about that from Dane Rudhyar, “if the symbol is referred to the position of a planet in an astrological chart, Cancer 5º begins at 4º 1” (four degrees and one second or minute) and ends with Cancer 4º59’59”; just as the first year (year number 1) of a life begins at birth and ends with the first birthday. We are dealing with a process, and ‘Phase One’ starts the very moment the process begins.”

The moment we take our first breath

The MOMENT we take our first breath determines our birth chart. “The birth chart is a blueprint of the seed image of the soul, an archetypal map of the psyche” (Michael McLay, M.A.). In honor of the current Virgo ♍ Moon, I want to mention that the EXACT time is important for calculating a correct chart (an aspect of the Virgo archetype is the value of precision in order to be of better service).

If you are uncertain about your own birth time, check your birth certificate - it might be on there! Otherwise rectification is possible. Sometimes complicated or challenging, but nonetheless possible!
